Beswick Parish Council

Not got motorized transport, but need to get to the shops, the doctors’ surgery, or just have a day out?  You’ll need to know about public transport.

Provision is variable, depending on where you live in the parish.  At worst, parishioners are over three miles from a bus stop.  If, on the other hand, you live in Beswick village, you’re within a couple of hundred yards.  The larger of the parish’s villages, Kilnwick, is a mile and a quarter from the nearest bus-stop – that’s a cold, wet and dark walk in winter when the weather is inclement.  But, in fine summer weather, there is a tarmac path from the junction of Tibby Lane and Wilfholme Lane and you might be offered a lift from a passing parishioner!

Buses

Bus services are provided by East Yorkshire Motor Services (EYMS) and Aklams (where serving the schools).  The frequency is not high and varies from route to route.

Service 121 (EYMS)

This runs along the A164 north to Driffield as far as Scarborough, via Bridlington, and south via Beverley to Hull Interchange.  It is an hourly service in both directions (but be aware of irregular gaps in the schedule). Bus stops are located at Kilnwick Lodges and at the north- (both directions) and south-end (northbound only) of Beswick, where village roads meet the A164.  Buses do not run through the Parish’s two villages. Service 45/46

This runs from further afield, so you’ll need a lift to the bus-stop or you might wish to park your car close by.  The service runs from York to Bridlington via either Market Weighton or Warter and Driffield.  You can catch the 45/46 at Bainton, North Dalton or Middleton. The service is every two hours, but can be less frequent for a specific route.  Click here for timetable

Service 142

This runs from further afield, so you’ll need a lift to the bus-stop or you might wish to park your car close by.  This runs variously from Holme on the Wolds, Middleton or Driffield to Beverley.  The nearest bus-stops to the Parish are in Lund (The Wellington Arms) and Lockington (Front Street).  There are only a few buses per day and these are irregularly scheduled.  Click here for timetable

Service X46/X47

This runs from further afield, so you’ll need a lift to the bus-stop or you might wish to park your car close by.  This service runs from Hull Interchange to York via Beverley, Market Weighton and Pocklington. The nearest bus-stop is in Bishop Burton (Altisidora).  But you can get the 121 to Beverley and catch the X46 at Sow Hill Bus Station – however, the schedules of the two services can be unkind! And you might be faced with a long wait.  The service is hourly for most of the day.  Click here for timetable

Rail

The railway connecting Hull to Scarborough via Beverley, Driffield and Bridlington, runs through the parish, but there are no stations.  The nearest station is Hutton Cranswick (just over three miles from Kilnwick and Beswick).  There is a small station carpark (free of charge as of December 2015).  The service provider is Northern, www.northernrailway.co.uk
